Digital Education is a fundamentally changing tertiary education and offers the hope for truly global lifelong learning. However, the field is in it infancy and there are as many questions to be discussed and hurdles overcome before it can reach its potential for change. That said, even now the scale of Digital Education's reach is astonishing - Coursera (one of the most popular platforms) offers over 420 courses and currently has an enrollment of 950,000 students, representing 195 countries.
Some of the biggest names in education (Harvard, Stamford and Edinburgh) were early adopters and continue to lead the field in not just their commitment to offering courses online in many disciplines, but also in the field of educational research and the development of digital pedagogies.
